Warnings ignored on high-gutter menace - (2/2/2009)

Thousands of homes face water damage from faulty gutters because the NSW Government is turning its back on the problem, writes Kelly Burke.

When Catherine Reynolds bought her Federation cottage 15 years ago, she knew she was investing in quality bricks-and-mortar workmanship of an earlier era. The house had stood solid on its tree-lined Leichhardt street for a century, and there was no reason to assume it would not continue to do so for a century more.

Today the internal walls are scarred with hairline fractures creeping from the cornices at an alarming pace while a dark mould works its way towards the ceiling.
